TotalEnergies, RGE bag conditional permit to import 1GW of RE from Indonesia
A deal was also signed for a subsea connector project.
The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has granted a conditional license to TotalEnergies and RGE’s joint venture to import 1 gigawatt of renewable power from Indonesia to Singapore.
In line with this, Singa Renewables Pte Ltd and Singapore Energy Interconnections Pte Ltd (SGEI), a newly incorporated company appointed to oversee the development of interconnections, also signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of a subsea interconnector between the two states.
Prior to this, the parties signed a co-investment agreement to develop, build and operate a hybrid renewable power plant comprising a solar farm, battery energy storage system (BESS), and a subsea cable in Riau Province, Indonesia.
The project will supply Clean Firm Power to energy-intensive consumers in Singapore and to industrial complexes near the solar site in Riau Province, Indonesia.
Helle Kristoffersen, president Asia and executive committee member at TotalEnergies, said “the project will contribute to Singapore’s goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050, whilst supporting Riau Province’s economic development in Indonesia.”
For the subsea interconnector, the parties will jointly explore planning, development, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of a subsea interconnector and associated interconnector assets for low-carbon electricity imports from Indonesia into Singapore.
"The interconnector project will play a crucial role in enabling clean energy imports into Singapore while contributing to win-win outcomes for Indonesia and Singapore,” said SGEI CEO Ong Teng Koon.
