India better than China in energy systems: WEF
The World Economic Forum rated India's energy system as better than China's.
The Global Energy Architecture Performance Index Report 2013, released recently, has ranked India at 62ndposition, much ahead of China which is placed at 74th spot.
The rankings took into account three major factors -- economic growth and development, environmentalsustainability, and energy access and security.
Norway has the topped list that features 105 nations. Sweden is at the second place, followed by France (3),Switzerland (4), New Zealand (5), Colombia (6), Latvia (7), Denmark (8), Spain (9) and the United Kingdom (10).
The United States has cornered the 55th spot. Among the BRICS, Brazil (21), Russia (27) and South Africa (59) are ahead of India.
"With clear objectives to achieve a balanced energy system that is environmentally sustainable, drives the economy and is secure, decision- makers should facilitate quicker and more cost effective transitions," Roberto Bocca, Senior Director, Head of Energy Industries at WEF, said.
The report, prepared in collaboration with Accenture, noted that many developing countries still struggle to supply citizens with basic energy needs.
