NTPC yet to meet Kayamkulam gas supply prerequisites

NTPC sought another six month-extension to comply with the gas supply agreement for stage II of the Rajiv Gandhi combined cycle power plan.

The 1,950 MW combined cycle power plant is located at Kayamkulam in Kerala.

NTPC intends to execute the crucial gas transportation agreement and complete the award of main plant package for the power plant by June 2, 2011, against the original deadline of December 2, 2010.

NTPC signed this GSA to effect the commissioning of the plant in the 12th Plan, till the entire 1.2 MTPA gas contracted from the Australian company, Gorgon, is available, which will not happen before July 2014.

The Kayamkulam plant presently has an installed capacity of 360 MW under the Stage-I.
