Huge market for small wind turbines in China
China’s potential for offshore wind power is placed at 750 GW, or three times that of onshore wind resources.
China’s small wind potential is estimated at over 10,000MW, or close to a third of the entire installed capacity for the small wind sector in 2008. A total of 38.7 MW of small wind power capacity was installed worldwide in that year.
In comparison, China’s potential for offshore wind power is placed at 750 GW, or three times that of onshore wind resources.
Small wind turbines are defined as wind turbines with capacities of 100 kW or less. These turbines may be as small as a 50 watt generator used to generate electricity on a farm.
To promote worldwide development of small wind and increase international partnerships, the 2012 Global Small Wind Summit (GSW2012) will be held in Shenyang, China from 30 March to 1 April, 2012.
A Global Small Wind Alliance will be organized during the summit as the global advocate for the small wind sector.
The first summit in 2011 had broad participation from China, Turkey, Sweden, Italy, the UK and Canada.
