Malaysian economic zone going green

Iskandar Malaysia wants more energy-efficient lifestyle for its people.

The Iskandar Malaysia Low Carbon Society Blueprint to be implemented by 2015 has identified 10 priority programs to attain this goal. Established in 2006, Iskandar Malaysia is the main southern development corridor in Johor. It is administered by the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) "We believe the priority programs will bring a new breath of life to Iskandar Malaysia and spur more economic interest in the corridor and country," said Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also Irda's co-chairman. The 10 programs are an integrated green transportation system, green economy guidelines, eco-life challenge projects for schools, a green technology portal, trees for urban parks and forests, responsible tourism and biodiversity conservation, Bukit Batu eco-community, Green Accord Initiative Award and Comprehensive Assessment System for a Built Environment, Felda Taib Andak as a low carbon village and Pasir Gudang as a smart city. Over 280 programs have been listed for implementation with the first 10 to be carried out from now to 2015.
