1 GW of gas-fired stations put for sale in Victoria, Australia

This includes the 500MW Newport power plant.

The global infrastructure and pension fund IFM Investors will put two Australian gas-fired stations for sale, according to Enerdata. The mentioned assets are operated by its subsidiary Ecogen Energy and their capacity is worth 1,000 MW and include the 500 MW Newport power plant (located 6km south-west of Melbourne) and the 449 MW Jeeralang power station (located 6 km south of Morwell, Victoria, Australia).

"The power output from the two gas plants is currently sold to the domestic electricity retailer EnergyAustralia but the contracts are thought to be nearing expiry. The Newport plant was built in 1980 while the Jeeralang power station was commissioned between 1977 and 1980," Enerdata said.
