ACE receives $7.7m grant for Southeast Asian power grid
This will operate by 2045.
The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) has received an additional $7.7m grant for the development of the ASEAN Power Grid.
In a statement, the World Bank said it approved the grant from the International Development Association. It is part of the bank’s $2.5b Accelerating Sustainable Energy Transition Program to an initial $5m grant for ACE approved in September 2024.
This will fund the “preparation facility in ACE for the ASEAN power grid under the ASEAN Vision 2020 for operationalisation by 2045.”
“It will support technical studies, including the ASEAN Interconnection Masterplan Study, and will provide transaction structuring support to coalesce diverse group of financiers including development partners and private sector,” the World Bank said.
The fund will also strengthen the implementation and coordination capacity of ACE to meet the increased demand to facilitate regional power trade among ASEAN member states.
