AREVA gets US$112.9M contract in South Korea

AREVA won an order worth over US$112.9M from KEPCO to supply the converter stations for a 400MW High Voltage Direct Current bipole scheme. The converter stations will transform alternating current into direct current, linking the South Korea’s Jeju Island to the mainland.

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution division will provide the overall system design, network studies and detailed engineering solution for the HVDC scheme. This will work in conjunction with the existing 300 MW HVDC bipole link installed by AREVA in 1997.

The new HVDC scheme will be operational in 2012.

"Through this contract, AREVA reinforces its HVDC systems expertise and its commitment to working closely with customers to develop cost-effective solutions for all their energy needs," said Michel Augonnet, Executive Vice-President for AREVA's Transmission and Distribution Systems Business Unit.
