India OKs nearly INR 4,000 crore for two hydro electric projects
Both have a completion period of 50 months.
India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposed investment for two hydro electric projects with a total capacity of 426 megawatts (MW).
In a statement, the Ministry of Power said INR 1,939 crore has been approved for the construction of Heo Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Shi Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh. The facility will have an installed capacity of 240 MW (3 x 80 MW), producing 1 billion units of energy.
The project will be implemented through a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Government of India shall extend INR 127.28 crore as budgetary support for construction of roads, bridges and associated transmission line under enabling infrastructure besides Central Financial Assistance of INR 130.43 crore towards equity share of the state.
Also approved by the cabinet was INR 1,750 crore for the construction of Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Shi Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh. The project with an installed capacity of 186 MW (3 x 62 MW) would produce 802 million units of energy.
A joint venture between NEEPCO and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh will also be formed for the project implementation. Government of India shall extend INR 77.37 crore as budgetary support on top of a Central Financial Assistance of INR 120.43 crore towards equity share of the state.
Both projects will improve power supply in Arunachal Pradesh and help balance the national grid.
