India’s SJVN to develop 10GW solar projects in Rajasthan
The investments for the project is estimated at around $6.7b.
Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) is planning to develop 10 gigawatts of solar power projects in the next five years in the state of Rajasthan.
In a statement, SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Sh Nand Lal Sharma said the 10GW renewable power projects/parks on the land banks with an estimated investment of around $6.7b (INR500b) will be allocated by the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited in the state.
Sharma said the company proposed the projects in Rajasthan because it has the largest solar power potential in India.
“It receives the highest solar radiation (5.72 kilowatt-hour per meter square per day) and also has the highest number of more than 325 clear sunny days in a year. All these factors work in our favour of developing the Projects,” the chairman said.
The chairman said that commercial production will commence in phases and the power to be generated will be transmitted through the nearest sub-stations, adding that the power purchase agreements for the generated energy will be signed through competitive tariff-based opportunities in the market.
The solar projects will also create direct and indirect employment to around 15,000 people.
The company has 2,750 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy projects in its portfolio, according to Sharma.
The chairman said they upgraded their targets to reach installed capacity of 25GW by 2030 and 50GW by 2040.
