JERA establishes RE venture in London

This will support the company’s goal to attain 20 GW of renewables by 2035.

Japan’s JERA will be establishing a new renewable energy business headquartered in London, JERA Nex, which will be focused on developing clean energy assets such as offshore and onshore wind, solar, and battery storage.

In a statement, JERA said JERA Nex will leverage the expertise of the UK, the second largest offshore wind market globally, in financing and developing renewables projects and acquire employees from their talent pool.

“We have outlined a vision to reach zero emissions by 2050, and the birth of JERA Nex plays a critical role in our strategic pillars for delivering that ambition,” JERA Global CEO and Chair Yukio Kani said.

“JERA Nex will enable us to draw upon expertise from across the world to develop renewable projects, forge partnerships, and build assets that contribute to a future of decarbonised energy with sustainability, affordability, and stability,” Kani added.

Nathalie Oosterlinck, Head of Global Renewables at JERA, will serve as the CEO of JERA Nex.

JERA aims to develop 20 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2035.
