KEPCO withdraws decision on 2,000MW Indonesian coal plant

A previous feasibility study revealed that the project was not viable.

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) deferred its current decision to invest in the proposed 2,000 MW Jawa 9 & 10 coal plant in Indonesia, the newspaper Hankyoreh reports.

South Korean law requires public institutions planning to invest over $42m in a project to undertake a feasibility study.

The report adds that KEPCO’s October 2019 feasibility study on the Jawa 9 & 10 project revealed the project was not viable. As a result, KEPCO reduced their proposed equity investment to $40m.

KEPCO is also proposing to provide a loan guarantee of $250m for the project.
