PH approves expanded capacity for Alternergy’s Tanay Wind Project

Sixteen wind turbines will be installed following the approval.

The Philippines’ Department of Energy has green lighted the increase in registered  capacity of theTanay Wind Power Project to 128 megawatts (MW) from 112 MW, Alternergy Tanay Wind Corporation (ATWC), a unit of Alternergy Holdings Corporation, has announced.

“We conducted a technical optimization study which showed that the potential net energy within the production area could generate as much as 128 MW of capacity,” said Knud Hedeager, president of Alternergy Wind Holdings Corporation, the sub-holding company of Alternergy’s wind assets which wholly owns ATWC.

With the approval, a total of 16 wind turbine generators with a rated capacity of 8 MW each will be installed in the project. This will be the largest onshore wind tower to be installed in the country.

Located in Tanay, Rizal, the Tanay Wind Power Project has secured financing up to $136.94m (PHP8b). It will be Alternergy’s second wind project in the Province, in addition to the 54 MW Pililla Rizal Wind Farm which has been operating since 2015.

Construction started in June this year with target commercial operations by end 2025.
