PM Green secures lead role in 1GWh BESS project in West Bengal
Project underscores company’s commitment to reliable, round-the-clock clean energy.
PM Green Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Mech Projects Limited, has entered into a contract as the lead member with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) to develop a 1 gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) in West Bengal in India.
Developed under a Build, Own, Operate (BOO) model, the project comes with a 100% off-take guarantee from WBSEDCL.
A 250 megawatt (MW) / 1,000 megawatt-hour (MWh) BESS will be set up at the Goaltore Substation in Paschim Midnapore, with a potential second 250 MW / 1,000 MWh facility planned at the Durgapur Projects Limited campus.
The contract has a 15-year duration, with a possible five-year extension, and an 18-month construction period upon signing of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement.
Revenue from the project is projected to reach up to INR 3,126 crore, subject to the exercise of the greenshoe capacity.
“Winning a project of this scale as our debut in energy storage solutions is a powerful testament to our ability to handle large and complex projects. We are building a future where clean energy is available round-the-clock, reliable, and accessible. This project demonstrates our strength in the power sector as we expand into a new energy vertical, and serves as a bold preview of what we aim to achieve in the years ahead,” said Sajja Kishore Babu, chairman and managing director of Power Mech Projects Limited.
