Sembcorp India to supply 250MW to Bangladesh

It won the tender held by the Bangladesh Power Development Board.

Sembcorp Gayatri Power Limited (SGPL) power plant (SGPL) clinched a tender conducted by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to supply 250MW of power to Bangladesh over a total period of 15 years, an announcement revealed.

“SGPL has received letters of intent from the BPDB in this regard, and supply of power is expected to commence upon completion of procedural requirements and relevant government approvals,” Sembcorp Industries said.

Aside from Sembcorp Energy India Limited’s (SEIL) participation in the tender through SGPL, the group is also part of a consortium which is developing the Sirajganj Unit 4 power project in Bangladesh that will have a contracted capacity of 426MW. It is eyed to launch its open-cycle operations by late 2018 and to fully operate by 2019.

“Our participation and success in this bid fit into SEIL’s strategy of providing cost-competitive and reliable power, whilst prudently contracting our balance open capacity at viable tariffs,” SEIL managing director Vipul Tuli commented.
