China electricity consumption growth rate to fall in 2011

China's nationwide electricity consumption is expected to rise nearly 12 percent to 4.7 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2011, reports cnr.cn, citing the China Electricity Council.

China's electricity consumption rose 14.6 percent in 2010. The report said some regions could see supply shortages in the winter and summer.


China plans to build 90 million kilowatt-hours of new capacity in 2011 for total nationwide installed capacity of 1.04 billion kilowatt-hours by the end of 2011, said the report.

The annual utilization hours of nationwide electricity equipments will remain basically stable overall while utilization hours of thermoelectric generation equipment is expected to rise year-on-year.

China is expected to spend up to US$113.7 billion in construction of electricity infrastructure, of which power supply construction projects will account for US$60.6 billion and US$53 billion will be invested in power grids.
