India issues amendment to solar cell ALMM order
This is seen to boost domestic solar manufacturing projects.
India has announced amendments to its order requiring the use of solar photovoltaic cells included in the Approved List of Models & Manufacturers (ALMM).
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the mandatory use of listed solar cells will begin one month after the list is published. The list is still being finalised.
“The ALMM is a mechanism to ensure reliability of producers, for protecting the consumer interests, whilst ensuring larger energy security of the country. The mechanism has also ensured quick promotion of domestic solar manufacturing industry,” the ministry said.
Meanwhile, the effective date for the mandatory use of solar PV cells under the ALMM for projects commissioned from 1 June 2026 onwards will remain.
This development is expected to boost the solar manufacturing projects in the country whilst adequately addressing the issues faced by the renewable power developers in complying with the ALMM for solar PV cells.
The ministry hopes this will also expedite solar cell manufacturing and will help it to keep pace with the growing module manufacturing capacity in the country.
