Karnataka's request for coal block allocation disapproved
India’s Ministry of Coal rejected requests for coal blocks for the state of Karnataka to fuel its power plants,
This outright dismissal comes as there are no coal blocks on offer for the power sector currently, as claimed by the ministry.
These requests were made by B.S. Yeddyurappa, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, and P.C. Gaddigoudar, a Member of Parliament from the state. While Yeddyurappa`s request relates to coal based power projects being set up at Yermarus, Edlapur and Bellary in Karnataka, apart from Godhna in Chhattisgarh, Gaddigoudar had requested for allocation of Palasbani coal block in MCL`s command area, for allocation in favour of NTPC, for a coal based power project of state-owned Karnataka Power Corporation Limited.
