PH and Indonesia explore partnerships to fuel clean energy shift
Some of the areas they are looking at are renewable energy and power generation.
The Philippines and Indonesia have commenced their inaugural Joint Energy Working Group Meeting, looking into possible partnerships to boost energy transition efforts
According to the Philippines’ Department of Energy, this initiative builds on the memorandum of understanding signed by both countries in January 2024. This seeks to promote long-term supply agreements for key energy commodities such as coal and LNG, foster greater engagement between the Filipino and Indonesian business sectors, and address common challenges within the energy sector.
The working groups formed are exploring potential cooperation in vital areas, including upstream and downstream oil and gas, renewable energy, energy efficiency, power generation, alternative fuels, electric vehicles, human resource development, critical minerals, and broader energy transition strategies.
“During the inaugural meeting, both sides exchanged insights and proposed potential areas for collaboration. Discussions centred on aligning policies, capacity building programs, sharing of knowledge on existing regulatory frameworks, and best practices across various energy subsectors,” the Philippines said.
Relevant parties will soon finalise priority areas aimed at delivering tangible outcomes during the initial three-year term of the agreement.
The next Joint Energy Working Group Meeting is set to take place in Manila in 2026.
