Vietnam close to achieving 100% rural electrification

 

Vietnam is getting close to its target of providing electricity to 100 per cent of its rural population. Nearly 97.8 per cent of its communes and 95.4 per cent of its rural households now has electricity.


According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong, only about 5 per cent of rural households living separately in remote areas are without electricity.


Ms. Victoria Kwakwa - Country Director of World Bank in Vietnam highly appreciated the achievements that Vietnam has obtained in the field of rural electrification during a World Bank-Ministry of Industry and Trade organized seminar assessing the impact of rural electrification in Vietnam. Ms. Kwakwa announced the results of the independent research "The benefits of rural electrification "in the framework of Rural Energy Project 1 conducted in 7 provinces of Vietnam in 2002, 2005 and 2008.
