Vietnam eyes revisions in national power development plan

Approval is expected next month.

Vietnam is working on revisions on its National Power Development Plan VII, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long said.

In a recent teleconference, the official said the revised plan will be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval by 28 February.

During the event, Vu Van Dien, vice chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People's Committee, proposed increasing the wind power capacity to 600 megawatt (MW) from 400 MW, citing the province's significant potential for wind energy projects as shown by surveys.

He also mentioned a 1,500 MW liquefied natural gas power project completed in 2021. This project is ready to operate, pending the finalisation of project cost norms

A representative from the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang also proposed adding 20 MW of waste-to-energy capacity, 1,600 MW of wind power, along with 1,000 MW of solar power from aquaculture zones.

Meanwhile, Pham S, vice chairman of the Lam Dong provincial People's Committee, suggested including pumped-storage hydropower projects on the Dong Nai River basin and exploring the potential for floating solar power projects on available water surfaces.

The Thai Nguyen province also proposed an additional 10 MW of waste-to-energy capacity and 200 MW of solar power.
