IOC to set up 100 more off-grid solar projects at its retails outlets in the country
May 24: Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has plans to put up about hundred off-grid solar power plants at various retail outlets during the current financial year. The aim is to replace diesel used for power generation. 8Such off-grid solar photo-voltaic systems have already been installed at 69 retail outlets of the state-run company. In addition, two solar power plants have also been installed at pipeline headquarters in Noida and the R&D centre in Faridabad, with an individual capacity of 75 KWp and 35 KWp, respectively. 8Indian Oil has also won the competitive bid for setting up a 5 MW solar power plant in the state of Rajasthan under Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The project is under implementation and is likely to be commissioned soon. 8IOC seems to be working towards diversification of its portfolio in renewable energy. The company is implementing a 48.3 MW wind power project in the state of Andhra Pradesh and another one of its projects-- the 21 MW wind project in Gujarat-- has completed almost three years of continuous operation since commissioning in January 2009.

Currently, the civil construction of the project is in progress. 8Indian Oil's board has approved 26% (Rs 961 crore) equity partnership for setting up the power plant in Rawatbhatta, Rajasthan. However, it is possible that IOC may acquire 49 percent stake in the proposed joint venture which will own the seventh and eighth unit of the Rajasthan plant of 700 MW each. 8The project is being set up at a total outlay of Rs 12,000 crore, to be financed in the debt-equity ratio of 70:30. 8Notably, the two state-run companies signed an MoU in November, 2009 and formed the JV company in April, 2011. The MoU covers setting up of nuclear power plants in the country for generation of electricity and any other area as mutually agreed upon.Worried Karnataka CM pleads PMO to help speed up coal linkage allocation for thermal projects
Worried Karnataka CM pleads PMO to help speed up coal linkage allocation for thermal projects
The growing mismatch between coal requirement and availability in Karnataka has prompted Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda to seek Prime Minister's Office's (PMO) help on expeditious allocation of coal linkages for thermal projects. 8The GoK has further sought the PMO's intervention to issue specific directions to Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) to immediately resume the coal supply to unit-II of Bellary thermal power station (TPS). 8A total of six TPPs have been undertaken by the state government through Karnataka Power Corporation Limited are in advanced stages of implementation. 8Out of these, two projects, the 1,320 MW Gulbarga TPP and the 1,320 MW Ghataprabha TPP have not been able to proceed with the bidding process due to lack of assurance of coal linkage. 8Once the coal linkage has been allocated by the coal ministry for the above mentioned projects, the successful bidders can submit their Requests for Proposal (RfP) at competitive rates which will benefit the consumers to a large extent. 8Speaking on another issue, Gowda has asked the PMO to request the coal ministry to circulate the list of areas containing coal blocks along with details of reserve price. This information is required to help project developers submit the necessary applications for allotment of coal blocks.
