Greenko triumphs at Asian Power Awards 2025 for plant upgrade and IPP leadership

It secured top honours for the digital transformation of its Bhilangana facility and its leadership in renewable energy.

Greenko has been honoured with two prestigious accolades at the Asian Power Awards 2025: Power Plant Upgrade of the Year - India and Independent Power Producer of the Year - India. These accolades recognise Greenko’s outstanding advancements in intelligent automation & leadership in renewable energy 

The Power Plant Upgrade of the Year - India award was granted in recognition of the extensive modernisation of the Greenko Bhilangana hydroelectric facility, situated in Uttarakhand. This 22.5 MW run-of-the-river facility, formerly operated under the name of Swasti Power Private Limited, has undergone a comprehensive technological transformation through the deployment of advanced digital automation systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA).This transition from manual processes to sophisticated automated control enables seamless single-click unit start and stop operations, reducing start-up time and substantially enhancing operational safety by obviating the need for manual equipment intervention during remote operation.

This upgrade has yielded significant improvements in key performance indicators such as Machine Availability (MA), Plant Availability (PA) & Plant Load Factor (PLF), alongside notable enhancements in Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) & Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). This real-time consolidation and visualisation of operational parameters across critical assets, including turbines, generators & transformers, through a unified interface, facilitates early anomaly detection. This works as an advanced warning system, enabling the operations team to undertake preemptive maintenance actions, thereby minimising downtime & achieving an 8% reduction in maintenance expenditure. Furthermore, prompt remedial measures during periods of peak generation have resulted in saving 1 million units (MU) of electrical output & prevented major breakdowns.

Simultaneously, Greenko is recognised as Independent Power Producer of the Year - India for its pioneering role as one of the country’s leading renewable energy developers. With a net installed capacity of 11 GW across 20 states, Greenko is instrumental in advancing India’s transition towards a decarbonised energy paradigm through the integration of renewable energy assets & innovative grid solutions.

Greenko is also driving the adoption of storage solutions to make renewable power dispatchable and grid-reliable, with Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Projects already initiated in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka.
