NYK Idemitsu Green Solutions bags win at Asian Power Awards

ULTY-V plus utilises artificial intelligence to achieve the optimal operation of boilers used in power plants and factories.

NYK Idemitsu Green Solutions clinched the Innovative Power Technology of the Year - Japan category win at the Asian Power Awards for its ULTY-V plus system that aims to optimise boiler fuel control.

ULTY-V plus is the equipment designed to reduce fuel consumption by 1.0% – which is able to retrofit to the existing boiler control system. It utilises artificial intelligence to perform a series of self-measurement, self-analysis and self-diagnosis in a completely self-contained manner, in order to achieve optimal operation of boilers used in power plants and factories.

It is applicable to a wide range of boilers such as USC and SC variable pressure once-through type, Subcritical type and circulating fluidised bed type as well, it is also applicable to various fuels not only fossil fuels such as coal but biomass fuels, refuse derived fuels and those fuels mixing with by-product gas and/or heavy oil. For the installment, the plant itself does not need to be remodeled and it can be easily connected to existing DCS.

ULTY-V plus picks two signals up – the load demand and the boiler master – from DCS and calculates the correction coefficient of the fuel function using the unique method incorporating artificial intelligence then outputs the correcting signal to DCS.

The fuel function is continuously being optimised by storing and rewriting the gap of the fuel functions between the design value and the measured value constantly. By correcting the signal, the optimum fuel flow rate is supplied and the boiler maintains a stable combustion cycle. By maintaining the cycle for a long time, it is prevented from injecting excessive fuel caused by pressure fluctuations thereby reducing the fuel consumption.

“ULTY-V plus remarkably contributes to stabilising the plant controllability, improving the efficiency and reducing the emission of carbon dioxide, which is applicable to a wide range of boilers and fuels,” the company said.

The Asian Power Awards, now in its 19th year, celebrates and honours companies and projects that have taken innovative and game-changing steps to address the effects of the climate crisis and meet the growing demand for energy.
