Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) wins at Asian Oil & Gas Awards 2025
The company’s digital system streamlines post-voyage claims and boosts cost recovery by 160%.
Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) won Innovative Technology Initiative of the Year - Indonesia in the Asian Oil & Gas Awards 2025 for its Pertamina Automated Claim Engine (PACE), a digital system that transformed how the company manages post-voyage claims.
Before PACE, the claims process at Pertamina International Shipping was highly manual, fragmented, and slow, averaging 200+ days from initiation to payment. In 2023 alone, 925 valid claims remained unprocessed due to limited resources, leading to revenue leakage and operational inefficiencies.
Launched in 2024, PACE is the first fully integrated platform of its kind in Southeast Asia’s maritime oil and gas sector. It automates the entire claims lifecycle, from creation and calculation to negotiation, payment offsetting, and documentation. The platform connects with Pertamina International Shipping’s Integrated Maritime Information System (IMIS) and its enterprise resource planning system, ensuring accuracy, eliminating duplication, and enabling real-time data flow.
The system is built around four modules: Claim Creation, Claim Analytics, Approval Workflow, and Tracking Management. These modules provide features such as service level agreement alerts, full audit trails, and standardised documentation, reducing the risk of disputes and fraud.
Since its implementation, Pertamina International Shipping has achieved an improvement in efficiency, removing total lead time significantly by 30 days per claim. By ensuring all valid claims were captured & settled promptly, annual cost recovery increased by nearly 160% from US$15.4m to US$39.6m in the first year of implementation.
The platform also positioned Pertamina International Shipping as a leader in digital transformation within the maritime logistics sector. Designed with scalability in mind, PACE’s modular architecture allows for future upgrades, including predictive analytics and AI-driven anomaly detection, as well as extensions to support chartering and voyage audit functions.
