India's largest solar power plant comes online
India's energy grid can look forward to an additional 40MW of electricity, this from solar power.
The country's largest solar power plant with an installed capacity of 40MW began generating electricity late last week. Located in western Rajasthan, the 40MW photovoltaic solar plant was built by Reliance Power at Pokhran in Jaisalmer district.
Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said the plant's target is to produce 20,000 MW of solar power by 2022. The plant's inauguration was also attended by Anil Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Power.
Ambani said he lauds the state government for its solar energy policy and hoped that Rajasthan will exceed its RE targets.
The Rajasthan state government is committed to achieve its target generating capacity of 300MW in two years.
