Japan encouraging energy efficient apartments

Will launch an energy assessment system for apartments.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plans to launch an assessment system for energy efficient apartments. The “Smart Mansion Assessment System” will promote energy efficiency and enhance the daily lives of residents living in apartments.

It refers to a system that will control the energy of a whole apartment building. Under the system, energy management, energy saving, peak cutting and peak shifting will be controlled, thereby providing efficiency use of energy and effortless energy saving.

M.E.T.I. explained that through the peak cutting program, electricity demand peaks experienced at peak hours as a result of using air conditioning or heating will be suppressed and lowered. On the other hand, the peak shifting program refers to shifting the electricity demand from peak hours to other hours with lower demand so as to level off the demands of energy.
