Electricity tariffs increase in Bass Strait Islands

The price of electricity on King and Flinders Islands increased by 3.60 percent.

The Department of Treasury and Finance has agreed to the revised tariff schedule for the Bass Strait Islands for 2012 in accordance with the requirements of the Community Service Obligation under which Hydro Tasmania provides electricity to the Islands.

The tariffs do not take into account the cost of delivering electricity services to the Bass Strait Islands, and a significant part of the cost differential is subsidised by the Tasmanian taxpayer through the CSO.

The revised tariffs will be applied on a pro-rata basis commencing with the first customer bills issued after 1 February 2012 and will be advertised in local newspapers.
