China to add add 87m KW of installed power capacity

This will bring its total power capacity to 1.23 billion KW by yearend.

The China Electricity Council said thermal power will still account for the bulk of the capacity at 860 million KW. Hydropower will account for 280 million KW; nuclear power, 14.78 million KW, on-grid wind power. 75 million KW and 6 million KW from on-grid solar power.

CEC said demand for electricity will grow as China's economy will continue to stabilize in 2013. China's electricity use last year grew 5.5% from 2011 to 4.96 trillion kilowatt hours, according to the National Energy Administration.

The growth rate was markedly lower than the 11.7% increase registered in 2011, reflecting a slowdown in the country's economy last year.
