Its new headquarters is located in Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

International think tank Global Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Institute has opened its first Middle East headquarters in Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

In a statement, Masdar said the opening of the Global CCS Institute headquarters in Masdar City, the regional home of technology innovation and research and development (R&D), highlighted a crucial area of climate response specialisation to the City’s network.

The institute will also benefit from the City’s digital infrastructure, advanced regulatory frameworks, and other R&D efforts for sustainability, it said.

Global CCS Institute aims to ramp up carbon capture and storage technology to support climate neutrality by working with partners in the industry and the public sector.

“Hosting the MENA headquarters of the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute underlines Masdar and the UAE’s commitment to practical solutions to climate challenges,” said Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jabar, minister for Industry and Advanced Technology, UAE special envoy for Climate Change, and chairman of Masdar.

“Carbon capture technologies are a critical tool for the global response to climate change and there is increasing awareness that widespread adoption will be essential to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement,” he added.

The Institute now joins other organisations and companies such as the International Renewable Energy Organisation and Siemens Energy which have regional headquarters in Masdar City.
