Neoen advances 179MW Western Australia wind farm

Project will connect to Western Power’s 220kV transmission network in SWIS

Neoen’s 179MW Narrogin Wind Farm in Western Australia has reached a construction milestone after Envision Energy received the Notice to Proceed for turbine supply and installation.

The project will be Neoen’s first wind farm on Australia’s west coast and will connect to Western Power’s 220 kilovolt transmission line within the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

“We are delighted to be joining hands with Envision, UGL and CPB Contractors to build Neoen’s first wind farm on the west coast,” said Jean-Christophe Cheylus, regional CEO for Australia Pacific of Neoen.

The wind farm will deploy 23 Envision EN182-7.8MW turbines, which the companies said will be the largest wind turbines installed in Australia. 

The project is expected to help power nearly 100,000 Western Australian homes each year and contribute about 3% of annual SWIS electricity demand.

Envision will supply, deliver, install, and commission the turbines with UGL and CPB Contractors, both part of CIMIC Group. 

It will also provide operations and maintenance support under a 30-year agreement with Neoen.

Envision said Narrogin is its second Australian wind project awarded in the past 12 months, following a Pilbara project that will use 17 EN182-7.8MW turbines.
