BlueFloat, Energy Estate expand AU offshore wind project capacity

The capacity will be increased to over 2GW from 1.275GW.

BlueFloat Energy and Energy Estate increased the proposed capacity of its Greater Gippsland Offshore Wind Project in the state of Victoria in Australia from 1.275 gigawatts (GW) to 2.085GW.

In a joint statement, the companies said the expansion came following a detailed analysis of the investigation area and its potential for offshore wind.

The proposed offshore zone area, available grid capacity, accelerated retirement of coal-fired energy generation and the national government’s support for an orderly energy transition were considered in the analysis of the project located in the Bass Strait, they said.

“The expansion of our Gippsland project is aligned with the Victorian Government’s ambitious target for offshore wind generation” said Energy Estate Founder Simon Currie.

“It demonstrates BlueFloat Energy and Energy Estate’s commitment to the development of large-scale projects, which can enhance long term energy security in Victoria and across the National Electricity Market (NEM),” he added.
