Masdar opens new Saudia Arabia office

It will bid in Saudi Power Procurement’s upcoming Round 4 tender.

Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy firm opened a new dedicated office in Saudi Arabia as it plans to participate in the upcoming Round 4 tender of the Saudi Power Procurement Co. (SPPC).

In a statement, Masdar said the next SPPC tender for renewables with a total capacity of around 3.3 gigawatts (GW), about 1.8GW of which were for three wind power plants and 1.5GW were for two solar parks, as part of the country’s National Renewable Energy Programme.

“This new office will support Masdar’s ongoing growth and expansion in the Kingdom, and it will better enable us to help diversify Saudi Arabia’s energy mix and meet the ambitious renewable energy targets outlined in Vision 2030. We look forward to working with our partners to continue to deliver world-class clean energy projects in Saudi,” said Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi.

A consortium of Masdar and EDF Renewables, along with Nesma started the operations of the 400-megawatt (MW) Dumal Al Jandal Wind Farm in 2021, Saudia Arabia's first and largest in the Middles East.

Once fully operational, it will generate energy enough to power 70,000 homes and abate 988,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The consortium is also developing the 300MW South Jeddah Noor Solar Photovoltaic Plant, and signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with SPPC last year to develop the plant.
