Abu Dhabi, IEA ink MOU for power sector decarbonisation

The partnership will also work on renewable energy integration into the grid.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy and the International Energy Association (IEA) signed a second memorandum of understanding to support the decarbonisation of the power sector which includes the area of improving energy efficiency and hydrogen production.

In a statement, the IEA said the deal will include cooperation to support the implementation of the Energy Department’s climate adaptation programmes.

Other key areas of cooperation will encompass managing demand for electricity and renewables integration into the grid.

Abu Dhabi aims to generate over 60% of its power from low-emission sources by 2035 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

The parties first signed a cooperation deal on energy and climate in 2019.
