Singapore Institute of Power and Gas launches the first power plant simulator training programme

The Centralised Power Plant Simulator aims to create standardised training for the energy sector.

The Singapore Institute of Power and Gas (SIPG) launched the first centralised power plant simulator (CPPS) training programme in the country.

Introduced in collaboration with the Energy Market Authority (EMA) and several Singaporean power generation companies, the CPPS aims to centralise and standardise training standards for the energy sector in Singapore to ensure that the workforce can be prepared for rare but critical scenarios for Singapore’s power sector.

The six courses integrated with CPPS will establish a consistent standard for skills training, from power plant operations to process controls, from the management of equipment alarms to the safety of operators of the plant.

These courses served as the first time that power generation companies cooperated to design and direct training standards for the sector.

“As the energy landscape continues its dynamic and transformative journey, SIPG is focused on cultivating competencies and technological know-how needed for the industry to keep pace with change. The Gencos’ collaborative and structured approach promotes sharing and adoption of best practices,” Chia Soo Ping, Principal of SIPG, said.
