APA switches on Australia’s largest remote grid solar farm

The Dugald River Solar Farm has an 88 MW capacity.

APA Group started the operations of the 88-megawatt (MW) Dugald River Solar Farm, the largest remote grid solar farm in Australia.

In a statement, APA said the project is composed of 184,000 solar panels, covering an area 65 times the size of the Gabba playing surface in Brisbane.

“APA has invested more than $1 billion in energy assets in the North West Minerals Province and we are proud of our role in the local community as we continue to work to deliver safe, reliable and affordable energy to the region,” said APA Grou Executive, Operations, Petrea Bradford.

The Dugald River Solar Farm will supply solar energy to MMG, Mount Isa Mines and New Century, supported by APA’s nearby gas-fired Diamantina Power Station.

The project will also help the company’s goal to reduce its operational emissions intensity in its power generation infrastructure.
