Consortium to develop 375 MW offshore wind farm in Japan

The project will start operations in 2029.

A consortium composed of Japan Renewable Energy Corporation, Iberdrola and Tohoku Electric Power will develop the 375-megawatt offshore wind farm in Akita Prefecture in Japan.

In a statement, the GK Happo Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm consortium said the project will be composed of 25 fixed-bottom foundation wind turbines with 15 MW capacity each, located off the coast of Happo Town and Noshiro City.

The project, which has a 30-year lifespan, is expected to start construction in 2026 with the operations targetted for 2029.

The consortium was appointed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, as the operator following its participation in the auction under the “Law Concerning the Promotion of Utilisation of Sea Area for Development of Offshore Renewable Energy Power Facilities.
