Over half of turbines at Taiwan’s 640-MW wind project start producing energy

Monopile installation for the facility has also been completed.

Skyborn Renewables announced that 42 wind turbine generators (WTG) at the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm have been connected to the grid.

In a statement, it also said the installation of all 80 monopiles of the 640-megawatt (MW) project has been completed.

The Yunlin project has an energised capacity of 336 MW, making it Taiwan's fourth largest completed offshore wind facility. 

“The project team will continue to work closely with all partners to steadily advance the finalisation of the OWF, which is on track to complete the installation of 80 WTGs by the end of 2024,”  Skyborn Renewables said.

So far, the project team has installed all 80 monopiles, along with 72 transition pieces, 55 WTGs, 42 inner array grids, and all 12 export cables. 

Located in the Taiwan Strait, electricity to be generated from the project will be supplied to the Taiwan Electric Power Company under two 20-year power purchase agreements.

The Yunlin wind farm is projected to power over 600,000 Taiwanese households.
