Tata Power bags 400-MW wind-solar project from Maharashtra

This will eliminate around 895 million kg of carbon dioxide.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, has secured a letter of award from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for the development of a 400-megawatt Wind-Solar Hybrid project, its largest renewable energy project in the state.

In a statement, the company said the deal includes an original contracted capacity of 200 megawatts (MW), along with a greenshoe option for an additional contracted capacity of 200 MW. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 895 million kilograms annually.

Energy generated from the hybrid solar-wind project will be supplied to MSEDCL, helping Maharashtra meet its renewable energy goals.

The project will be completed within two years after a power purchase agreement between TPREL and MSEDCL is signed. 

Following this development, TPREL's total renewable energy capacity has reached 10.5 gigawatts (GW), with 5.7 GW under development and 4.8 GW operational (3.8 GW solar, 1 GW wind).
