Tata Power Renewable Energy commissions 126 MW floating solar project

It was completed within 26 months.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has completed and started operating its 126 megawatt (MW) Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project, which is one of India’s largest floating solar installations.

Located in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, the Omkareshwar project, which was completed within 26 months, supplies power to the Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited.

The project features 213,460 bifacial glass-to-glass modules, generating 204,580 megawatt-hours of energy annually, offsetting 173,893 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. It also uses engineering solutions such as robust mooring systems, wave breakers, ballast anchors, and adaptive cableways for energy stability.

This development brings TPREL’s total renewable energy capacity to 10.9 gigawatts (MW) with 5.6 GW of projects in various stages of implementation. Its operational capacity has reached 5.3GW, comprising 4.3 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind energy projects.
