Avaada to develop 1.2 GW pumped storage project in India

This will be located in Sirohi district.

Avaada Group has signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the 1,200 megawatt (MW) Kadambari pumped storage project (PSP)  in the district of Sirohi in Rajasthan.

In a statement, Avaada said it will invest INR 5,800 crore over the next five to seven years in the project.

Rajasthan, India's second-largest renewable energy state with 28,617 MW of installed capacity, faces challenges from solar energy's intermittent nature. PSPs address this by storing excess solar power for later use, ensuring a stable power supply.

“Our pumped storage project will not only provide Round the Clock (RTC) renewable power but also enhance grid stability by integrating more solar and wind energy,” said Vineet Mittal, chairman of Avaada Group.

“This is part of our broader commitment to Rajasthan, where we are actively pursuing solar, wind hybrid, and other innovative projects to meet the state’s growing energy needs and reduce its carbon footprint,” he added.

This project aligns with Avaada’s INR 1 lakh crore investment in Rajasthan. This investment includes a 1 million tonnes per annum Green Ammonia Project, 1 gigawatt (GW) Wind Power Projects, and 10 GW Solar Power Projects in districts like Jhalawar, Kota, Barmer, and Bikaner.
