Vietnamese section of Monsoon-Thanh My 500 kV transmission project energised

This will import electricity from a plant in Laos to Vietnam.

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has announced that the Vietnamese section of the Monsoon-Thanh My 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line project has been energised.

In a statement, EVN said the section in Vietnam is built in Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province with a length of about 44.71 kilometres. This is a double-circuit transmission line work, connecting the Monsoon Wind Power Plant cluster to the Thanh My 500kV substation in Quang Nam province.

The project started on 30 September 2023, with the part in Vietnam completed 40 days ahead of the power generation target of the Monsoon wind project. The plant is expected to be completed in early March 2025.

The transmission line can transmit a maximum capacity of up to about 2,500 MW.

After the Monsoon wind plant (Laos side) is completed, the transmission project will receive imported electricity from Laos with a capacity of 600 MW, and the expected average annual electricity output is about 1.7 billion kilowatt-hours.
