J-POWER and KDDI enter deal for onshore wind power

The agreement involves upgrading an existing wind facility and the building of a new one.

A virtual power purchase agreement has been signed by J-POWER’s J-Wind Co., Ltd. and KDDI Corporation for an onshore wind farm.

In a statement, J-Power said J-Wind will upgrade the Minami Osumi Wind Farm in Minami Osumi Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, and will construct the 19,500 kilowatt New Minami Osumi Wind Farm. The environmental value with additionality generated from power production will be provided to KDDI for 20 years starting from the commencement of commercial operation.

KDDI expects that this initiative will halve carbon emissions at its telecommunication base stations in the Kyushu region.
