Philippines exceeds 4.65 GW installation target in GEA-3

Fourteen projects were submitted.

The Philippines’ Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that the recent 3rd Green Energy Auction (GEA-3) recorded an offered capacity of 7,500 megawatts (MW), exceeding the installation target of 4,650 MW.

In a statement, the DOE said a total of 14 projects, with delivery periods from 2025 to 2035, were submitted in the auction. These include pumped-storage hydropower facilities,  with installation target ranging from 250 MW to 2,000 MW.

Currently, the only pumped-storage hydropower facility in the country are the government-owned Kalayaan 1 and 2 in Laguna with a total capacity of over 300 MW.

The list of Winning Bidders will be posted on the DOE website once the Energy Regulatory Commission has completed its review of the price offers.
