ACE Power bags environmental approvals for Queensland BESS projects

The company is now advancing towards connection agreements with Powerlink.

ACE Power has received environmental approvals for its flagship battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Queensland.

In a statement, the company said  “Not a Controlled Action” determination under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act was granted to the 900 megawatt (MW) / 3600 megawatt-hour (MWh) Nebo BESS and the 500 MW / 2000 MWh Raglan BESS.

Located near Mackay, the Nebo BESS is expected to become one of Australia’s largest battery storage systems. Likewise, the Raglan BESS near Gladstone will enhance energy security in Central Queensland by improving reliability and decreasing dependence on fossil fuels.

Construction on both projects is expected to begin in 2026.

ACE Power said it will now work on connection agreements with Powerlink, scheduled for negotiation later this year.
