Borouge honoured at Asian Oil & Gas Awards 2025 for excellence in material engineering

The company’s latest polymer innovation demonstrates its capability to deliver durable, high-performance materials for Asia’s gas infrastructure sector.

Borouge received an accolade in the New Product of the Year - UAE category at the Asian Oil & Gas Awards 2025 for the development of BorSafe™ HE3492-LS-H, a high-performance polyethylene resin designed for modern gas distribution networks. It is used for underground gas pipes and is more durable and crack-resistant than regular materials.

“As global demand for resistance-to-crack (RC) materials continues to rise in Asian markets,  RC classification is increasingly becoming a prerequisite to ensure quality and durability. Borouge is the first in Asia and the Middle East to produce a material, BorSafe™ HE3492-LS-H, that not only meets but exceeds the requirements for PE100-RC,” said Youssef Taha, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Innovation at Borouge.

BorSafe™ HE3492-LS-H is the first PE100-RC material produced in Asia and the Middle East to appear on the PE100+ Association’s PE100-RC+ Quality Material List. The classification refers to polyethylene grades with improved resistance to slow crack growth and better long-term durability for gas and water networks and enables the use of trenchless installation techniques.

BorSafe™ HE3492-LS-H is an orange compound, bimodal, high-density polyethylene material produced using proprietary advanced Borstar® technology. The compound is designed to ensure excellent long-term thermal stability and UV-resistance. The material’s extrusion behaviour, characterised by high throughput and minimal waste, provides manufacturers with stable and efficient production performance.

BorSafe™ HE3492-LS-H demonstrates Borouge’s ability to develop targeted polymer solutions that meet defined industrial requirements. It contributes directly to the reliability and durability of gas infrastructure systems operating in demanding conditions. The product is produced in Borouge’s world-class production facilities in Ruwais, United Arab Emirates.

Borouge is a leading petrochemicals company that provides innovative and differentiated polyolefin solutions for the infrastructure, energy, mobility, healthcare, agriculture and advanced packaging industries.
