Laos gets Thai support as Asia’s electricity centre

Thailand gave full support for the Laos’ efforts to emerge an electricity hub of Asia within 10 years

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand disclosed that Thailand and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic have enjoyed their long standing partnership in producing and supplying electricity to each other, according to Business Day.

Their relationship began in 1968 when Laos received electricity from Thailand to build Nam Nguem Dam, which has been generating and supplying power back to Thailand after its construction was completed. Thailand is currently receiving electricity supply from 8 generators in Laos with the production capacity of 2,150 megawatts.

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was present during the opening ceremony of Nam Theun 2 Dam in Laos.
