ADB is lending Bangchak Petroleum Company up to US$140 million to build two solar power plants in central Thailand.

EGAT has agreed to purchase 1,220-kW at a cost of 2,159 baht per kilowatt-hours from Sayaboury hydropower dam in Laos.

GE will supply 36 2.5-MW wind turbines to the Thep Sathit Wind Farm in the Chaiyaphum province of Thailand. Located about 250 kilometers northeast of Bangkok with GE, the 90 MW is being built by German wind developer Pro Ventum International. GE is also looking into a potential equity investment in the project. It will be the first wind project in Thailand for both Pro Ventum and GE and when operational, could potentially be one of the first wind farms of this scale in Thailand and the greater ASEAN region.

The long-term reliability of GE gas turbines at PTT Chemical's Map Ta Phut site will be ensured with the inking of a service agreement between the two companies.

Buasommai Electricity Generating Co., tapped AREVA to build two turnkey 10 MWe biomass plants in North-East Thailand. These are fuelled by rice husks. AREVA already built two units in Thailand in 2009 that are fully operational.

POWER-GEN Asia 2009 posted a record attendance with nearly 7,000 power industry professionals converging at IMPACT Exhibition and Conference Centre in Bangkok.

IRPC will replace its fuel oil power plant with a 200-megawatt natural gas-fueled cogeneration plant. The plant in its petrochemical complex in Rayong province will be powered by six Frame 6B gas turbines supplied by GE Oil & Gas.

Siemens Energy has commissioned an SST-300 industrial steam turbine at a paper mill in Thailand. It produces electrical energy to operate the machines and thermal energy for the drying processes employed in paper production. It is driven by steam produced in a boiler fueled by waste biomass from pulp production, and partially also coal. This paper mill will burn more than 200,000 tons of biomass, mainly from eucalyptus. It is owned by SCG Paper and is operated by Phoenix Pulp & Paper PCL, which ranks among the most important Thai pulp and paper mills with a production capacity of around 200,000 tons of printing and writing paper a year. SCG Paper decided to purchase the Siemens SST-300 steam turbine with a capacity of 31 megawatts to increase the paper mill’s efficiency. It was supplied by the Siemens site in Brno in the Czech Republic.  

Invensys Process Systems has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by Simon Carves Limited to provide an InFusion Enterprise Control System through an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for PTT Polyethylene Company Limited (PTT PE). Invensys will provide a complete enterprise control solution for the grass-roots, 300,000 t/y LDPE plant that will be built at the Padaeng industrial estate in Thailand.
