India's power capacity reaches 500.89 GW

Non-fossil fuel sources accounted for 256.09 GW (51%).

India’s total installed electricity capacity has reached 500.89 gigawatts as of 30 September 2025, with non-fossil fuel sources accounting for 256.09 GW (51%), according to India’s Ministry of Power.

Meanwhile, fossil-fuel-based sources make up 244.8GW, approximately 49%. Solar power stands at 127.33 GW and wind power at 53.12 GW.

During the first half of the year, India added 28 GW of non-fossil capacity and 5.1 GW of fossil-fuel capacity.

Additionally, on 29 July, India reached its highest-ever renewable energy share in electricity generation, meeting 51.5% of the country’s total electricity demand of 203 GW.

“This marked the first time that over half of India's power came from green sources in a single day,” the Ministry said.
