Solar projects in India climbs 53.7% in 9M: Mercom

The country’s cumulative solar capacity stood at 125.5GW as of September.

Solar projects in India in the first nine months (9M) of 2025 totalled 26.6 gigawatts (GW), an increase of 53.7% from the 17.3 GW in the previous year, Mercom India Research said.

India’s cumulative solar capacity stood at 125.5GW as of September 2025, it said in its Q3 2025 India Solar Market report.

Large-scale projects accounted for 85.2% of the GW of September 2025, whilst rooftop solar accounted for 14.8%.

Solar PV projects accounted for 25% of India’s installed power capacity and 51% of the country’s installed renewable energy capacity.

In terms of areas, 29.5% of India’s large-scale solar projects were installed in Rajasthan, 17.7% in Gujarat, and 13.1% in Karnataka, Mercom said.

The project pipeline of India's large-scale solar projects stood at 191.1 GW, with another 162.5 GW of projects tendered and pending auction as of September 2025, it added.
